(UPDATED: It seems the image was finally was taken down from the site, so, the link doesn't work anymore. Not sure if it's a victory, but works for me. So, the following rant is already outdated).
Girls and boys, I feel I'm finally getting there.
I have nothing but respect for Stan Winston and the Studio that carries on his legacy. Even more for the school that shares all of their incredible wealth of SFX knowledge. They regularly post fan art from all over the world in their page. Even a couple from yours truly now and then.
Yesterday, they posted a picture from someone who used my "Da Vinci Iron Man" series as a background, without credit, permission and with the website removed. The school gave me credit after I mentioned the fact, the guy laughed (literally, you can check the thread and image herewww.facebook.com/StanWinstonSc…
It's not up to me to judge on the value of someone else's work. This guy, Hasan, seems a capable artist in his own right. Why he's beyond giving an apology or at least recognizing he appropiated images, I don't know. He's very proud of the idea he had of just drawing Iron Man in the pose of one of the most imitated drawings in history. OK, more power to him. I hope he cleans up his act soon.
His response, after a lot of pressure, was removing the background stolen from me with one stolen from Leonardo.
Am I overreacting? Maybe, since he's not profiting (at least I hope so) from the image. I just think it's basic human decency recognizing when you imitate or "borrow" someone else's work. That's why we always write the "after Kirby" each time we draw another homage to Avengers 4, dammit.

Have a nice weekend, folks.
