Girls and boys, this week at The Line it is Drawn, we celebrate the King's 98 birthday by drawing some of his creations.
Yes, I did start reading comics with reprints of the original Fantastic Four, Avengers and such... even then I knew there was something very weird about the way that Kirby guy drew faces and machines and put those fists and legs always in your face... but everything felt so powerful and exciting. I've always considered myself more influenced by John Buscema, but I couldn't shake the Kirby out of my system with a full blood transfusion. All those techniques we take for granted, all those characters that are part of everyday life, those came from his mind. None other like him, not now, not ever.
So, here's Etrigan. And yes, the suggestion called for rhyme, and that wasn't a part of Kirby's original story (I believe that was Alan Moore's idea), but it's fun, so, there you go. Those super-thick lines and odd joints are fun to do.
