The weirdest yet...

Description

Now, this is an idea that I got watching Carl Sagan's Cosmos, many years ago, and it stuck in the back of my mind... (This looms in the background in my City entry, and I'm too sleepy to make the link right now).

So, there's this floating thing akin to a jellyfish, that just soars trough the atmosphere, till it captures some of those tubular guys, that are basically living turbines, that suck and expel air so they impulse themselves. The jellyfish is a slaver. And so it travels as a living air chariot.

Off to sleep now...

I couldn't imagine such two species being isolated. They must have evolved from somewhere... So I envision two full trees of coevolutive species...

They could range from the JellyFish (let's say JF) luring and capturing TurbineFish (TF), to a pack of TFs capturing a JF to serve as a kind of "sensors pod", up to full symbiosis.

Some species could develop many different strategies to attract species of the other tree if it needs them, or repulse them if they are threats to it...

A few examples :
  - Some TFs ould develop "connectors" or "nests" where JF's tentacles would fit, but only a few selected species of JFs...
  - Other species could be fitted with an armor hampering the tentacles,
  - TFs or JFs that must attract individuals of the other tree could emit pheromones, visual or audio signals,
  - On the same line, some species could even synthesise biochemical compounds acting as drugs on other species, the inverse can be true with repulsive or even poison,
  - For instance, you could have a JF with a host of TF around it, lured by drug pheromone, selecting only the best ones and leaving the others in a constant state of withdrawal until they find a pilot...
  - And as you said "pretty restrained", on a lighter note, why not imagine some species going further to full symbiosis of their neural systems ?
  - This could also be interesting to devise how creatures find/avoid creatures of the other tree all through their life, from newborn to aged and dying...
  - There could be fights or cooperation between individuals to find or avoid other tree individuals,
  - That could range from the already mentioned TFs packs to packs of evolved JFs herding and selecting flocks of TFs...

What do you think about this ?
